Alaska wants to build a statewide health information exchange. The state’s Department of Health and Social Services earlier this month published a notice seeking Alaska-based organizations to create a statewide clinical information-sharing system. The agency said effort is aimed to “improve health care quality and efficiency through the authorized and secure electronic exchange and use of health information.” Among the requirements of the project are a statewide infrastructure to support and connect the HIE records; a technology plan to promote use of the HIE; and ensuring the HIE interconnects with government as well as public and private health information reporting systems. Responses are due Aug. 18. The HIE would be governed by a panel made up of representatives from the state government, public and private health providers, insurers, consumers and employers, according to the notice. govhealthit.com |
